The Book Rack
We've been in the South Charlotte area for over 30 years. We're primarily a used bookstore, with over 50,000 used books in stock, but we also carry a small number of new releases. We trade used books for Store Credit towards our used books. Set up an account with us, and you can earn a 10% coupon every time your purchases total $25. Check out our Monthly Specials!
We have an annual food drive for Nourish Up in June, school supply drives for Classroom Central in January and August, and a homeless shelter supply drive for Roof Above and Center of Hope in October. We're a drop-off location for Promising Pages.
Our Books
We have over 50,000 Used Books in stock, most for $8 or less.
Fiction. Non-Fiction. Children's Books. Hardcover and Paperback.
They're sorted into sections and alphabetized by author.

We also carry a small selection of New Books - mostly the new fiction paperbacks published each month, along with some Classics. We discount those 20% off the publisher's price. We can Special Order most books that are in print, normally also at a 20% discount.

We have a small number of New Hardcovers on our Rental Shelf, which we rent for $3 for 2 weeks.

Looking for something in particular? You can call us (704-544-8006), email us (bookrack@bellsouth.net), or message us through Facebook or Instagram. We'll be happy to put the book aside for you if we have a copy. If we don't, we'll be happy to put the book on a want list for you and let you know when it comes in. We notify several dozen people every week that we've found the book or books they were looking for.

We don't have an online inventory, but we do feature books from our store on our Facebook and Instagram pages. We can mail books or provide curbside pick-up if you can't come in to the store.

Trade Policy
We accept used books in trade for our used books. We always accept our own books (with our store stamp or sticker in/on them) in trade, except for sale (3 for $1 or $1.00) books. Other books we accept as we need them. We reserve the right to refuse any book due to excess inventory, age, condition, or subject matter. We do not accept Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, computer books, magazines, and most textbooks. We give as Store Credit 25% of the amount that we will sell the book for. We never pay money for books. Typically we price our books between $6 and $8, so we typically give $1.50 to $2.00 in Store Credit per book.
We consider books for trade on a first-come, first-served basis.
We do not consider books outside the store or over the phone.
We do not take or require appointments.
We do not set a limit on how many books you may trade in.
We can normally check in 20-25 books for you while you’re in the store. If you bring many more than that to trade, especially at busy times of the year, the rest will join our line, and we’ll check them in as quickly as possible and notify you when we finish the trade. We prioritize checking in books for customers who are shopping in the store, so they’ll have Store Credit to use immediately. If you’re not going to shop, your books will be added to our line and checked in as quickly as possible.
We have charities that come regularly to pick up books that we cannot take in trade and that our customers do not want back. Books that we cannot take in trade that you do want back must be picked up within 2 weeks of notification or they are subject to being given to charity.
Store Credit may be used to pay for up to 50% of your used book purchase and 5% of your new book purchase (including most special orders). Store Credit may not be used on rental books, or sale (3 for $1 or $1.00) books. Store Credit may not be used to pay sales tax. Store Credit will remain on the computer for three years after your last transaction, after which it is subject to being given to charity.
